Bluebird Psychiatry is in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) PPO plans. If you have a BCBS PPO plan, your psychiatric visits are typically covered the same as any other in-network specialist, subject to your plan's copay or deductible. We serve adults ages 18 to 65, in person at our Westlake Hills office in Austin and by telehealth across Texas.
Does Bluebird Psychiatry accept my insurance?
We are in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO plans only. If your BCBS card shows "PPO," you can be seen as an in-network patient. We are not currently in-network with HMO or POS plans, including BCBS HMO and BCBS POS plans.
I have UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, or Cigna. Can I still be seen?
We are not in-network with UnitedHealthcare (UHC), Aetna, Cigna, or Medicare. We want to be upfront about that so you can make the best decision for your care and your budget. You still have two options with us:
- Out-of-network benefits. Many PPO plans reimburse a portion of out-of-network psychiatric care. If your plan includes out-of-network benefits, we can provide a superbill, which is an itemized receipt you submit to your insurer for possible reimbursement.
- Self-pay. You are welcome to be seen on a self-pay basis regardless of your insurance. See "Do you offer self-pay?" below.
If neither option fits, we would rather tell you now than have you find out at your first visit. A good starting point for finding an in-network provider is the "find care" or provider-search tool on your insurer's website, or the member services number on the back of your card.
How do I know if my Blue Cross Blue Shield plan is a PPO?
Look at your insurance card. Most BCBS cards print the plan type, such as "PPO," "HMO," or "POS," near the plan name or member ID. If it isn't clear, call the member services number on the back of your card and ask, "Is this a PPO plan, and do I have out-of-network benefits?" That one question tells you everything you need to know before you book.
What's the difference between in-network and out-of-network care?
In-network means your insurer has a contracted rate with us, so you typically pay only your copay or deductible. Out-of-network means there is no contracted rate, so you may pay more up front, but if your plan has out-of-network benefits, you can often recover part of the cost by submitting a superbill. If you have BCBS PPO, you are in-network with us and this does not apply to you.
Do you offer self-pay or out-of-network options?
Yes. Patients without BCBS PPO can be seen on a self-pay basis, and we can provide a superbill for possible out-of-network reimbursement. For current self-pay rates, please call us at (512) 521-0868.
How do I get started?
If you have BCBS PPO or would like to be seen on a self-pay basis, we would be glad to help. You can request an appointment on our website or call us at (512) 521-0868.
